Illini hope to short out Flashes
The Golden Flashes of Kent State
November 12, 2004 - Just lucky? Better than they appear to be? Someone to be reckoned with? These are all questions/statements that have been made about the Illini's next opponents, the Kent State Golden Flashes. Kent State has had kind of an up and down season so far, tying a higher ranked Mercyhurst, losing to Buffalo, beating up on Western Michigan and Robert Morris University, and then tying Last seasons Champions and currently ranked number two, Ohio. Since that time though, the Flashes have been on a four game slide and undoubtably are looking to turn things around against the Illini. These two games this weekend mean a lot to both teams since there are eight CSCHL points hanging in the balance and would greatly help either team that gets them.
The Golden Flashes are being lead offensively by Junior Brett Kendig, who is averaging just about a goal per game and Freshman Matt Widing, two players that the Illini are going to have to keep in check. Defensively Kent State has been slowing down the opposing offenses and allowing, on average, only twenty-seven shots on goal per game. Of those twenty-seven shots though, the Flashes netminders have been allowing at least three to get past them, something the Illini will have to take advantage of.
Both games this weekend are at the U of I ice arena and both start at 7:00pm. Be sure to get there early and get some good seats for another great pair of games.
