First road games may present a challenge for Illini.
Iowa State bound
October 28, 2004 - Well it's been five weeks since the Illini hockey season started and this will be the teams first road trip. And what better way to break in the rookies than by taking them to visit one of the Illini's biggest rivals, the Cyclones of Iowa State. The noisy fans, the smaller ice surface, the cheerleaders, and the Cyclones themselves, who have played fourteen games so far this season, over twice as many as the Illini, but with are struggling with a .500 win/loss record. The Cyclones, currently ranked 8th in the American Collegiate Hockey Association coaches poll, are coming into the games off of a weekend series split against Minot State and who are surely looking to improve their standing in both the ACHA and CSCHL. While the Iowa State skaters have a few different offensive weapons that are able to score, they are mainly lead by Seniors forwards Travist Fast and Brent Popadych who both know how to hit the mark. If the Illini can control the puck and can keep putting shots on goal, they should be able to take advantage of the Cyclone netminders who are allowing an average of three goals per game. This will be two of the toughest games so far this season for the Illini, and they will surely be a learning experience as well. The Illini will face off against the Cyclones in these two point CSCHL games at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena this Friday night at 7:30pm and then again Saturday at 9:45pm. The illini will be home again the following weekend, November 5th and 6th, to take on these same Iowa State Cyclones.
