Illini Womens Hockey Club member loses long battle
Garnet Litherland
April 28, 2004 - It is with great sadness that the Illini Hockey Club inform you that Illini Womens Hockey Club member Garnet Litherland lost her battle with acute lymphblastic leukemia (ALL). On September 29, 2003, Garnet was diagnosed with ALL and was admitted to Carle Hospital in Urbana/Champaign. As it turns out, Garnet had an extremely rare and difficult leukemia to treat which involves an additional complication of a chromosome breakdown. After the many procedures and treatments to help Garnet battle the illness, she returned home earlier this month for her final fight. At ten minutes to noon Garnet lost this fight and slipped away. On Friday, April 30, 2004, there will be a visitation at Noon and a Funeral Service at 2:00PM at The Grace Methodist Church in Urbana, Illinois; burial will immediately follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery on Rt. 150 between Urbana and St. Joseph. Memorial Contributions may be made to Leukemia Research Foundation or Illini Women's Club. The Illini Hockey Club would like to thank all of their fans, friends, and families for the support, kindness, and generosity they have shown, it was very much appreciated.
