Illini skate down to St. Louis
The Illini to face off against the Billikens
February 6, 2004 - Thanks to the Mother Nature, the Illini may have to strap their skates onto the bus in order to make it down to Missouri for this weekends meetings with the Billikens of St. Louis University. The ice at Summit Center won't be the only ice that the Illini will have to contend with as much of Central Illinois was coated with ice and/or snow yesterday. The Illini will also have to contend with a St. Louis team that appears to have a chip on their shoulder. Since returning from semester break the Billikens have a mediocre record of 5-4-0, but the last loss has many people around the league wondering what kind of team St. Louis actually is. Last Saturday as St. Louis faced Weber State, the score was 10-2 in favor of Weber State, when with thirteen and a half minutes left in the game, the St. Louis coaches pulled the Billikens off the ice and forfeited the game. There are many rumors and stories as to why this happened, and they won't be looked at here, but St. Louis will more than likely try to vindicate itself by playing two tough games against the Illini and at the same time get a little revenge for the losses that the Illini handed them earlier this season here at the Big Pond. The Illini have struggled some on the road, but they will have their starters back on the ice for these last two games of the CSCHL regular season and try to get the team firing on all cylinders before heading into tournament play. The Illini have won the last four home games but came away 1-2-1 for the last four games on the road and are definitely looking to improve that record before the road trips to the CSCHL playoffs and ACHA nationals.
