The Illini slip one more spot
ACHA Rankings #7 released

January 23, 2004 - Four-time defending ACHA Division 1 National Champion Penn State remains at the top of the first poll of 2004, garnering 18 out of a possible 29 first-place votes. The Nittany Lions prevailed in a 1 vs 2 battle against Rhode Island, but were swept by Ohio University, which jumped up four spots to #2. The Bobcats received 8 first-place votes and clinched the Central States Collegiate Hockey League Regular-Season Championship with a win and a tie against Illinois. Rhode Island received two first-place votes, winning its other three games but dropping a spot to #3. Besides its showdown with Ohio, Illinois split with Minot State on the road, handing the Beavers its first ACHA loss at home since March 2000, and came in at #4. Lindenwood received the other first-place vote and dropped a spot to #5, winning 3-of-4 on a road trip to the state of Arizona, while Minot State fell to #6 with its split against Illinois. Michigan-Dearborn entrenched itself at #7, winning two games at home and splitting with Iowa State on the road. West Chester and Weber State traded spots at #8 and #9, and were separated by one point in the balloting. West Chester scored wins over Towson and Robert Morris (PA) and split a home-and-home with Drexel. Iowa State stood ground in the #10 spot, while Towson moved up two spots to #11, completing a 4-game season sweep over Delaware. Arizona State was the big-gainer in Ranking #7, moving up seven spots and coming in at #12. The Sun Devils played three top-10 teams, sweeping Iowa State and Weber State, while being swept by Lindenwood. Drexel moved up a spot to #13, also splitting a home-and-home with Navy. Delaware and Washington & Jefferson both fell out of National Tournament spots, sliding three spots each to come in at #14 and #15. Arizona, Saint Louis, Navy, and Kent State each dropped one spot from the last poll, while Robert Morris (IL) held its spot at #20.
