Western
Michigan University Stallions |
November
13, 2003 - Another pair of home games,
another CSCHL match-up, and another team looking
for their
first league win.The Stallions of Western Michigan
University will be cantering into Champaign-Urbana
this weekend trying to turn their losing season
around and gathering up some sorely needed league
points.
Western Michigan, who currently holds a 3-7-1 over
all record,
find themselves
dead
last
in the
Central
States Collegiate Hockey
League
point standings with zero points and have fallen
out of the American Collegiate Hockey Associations
top
20
rankings.
The
Stallions were finally able to put a stop to their
five game losing skid this past weekend with a
win and
tie
against the University of Michigan hockey club
who the Illini defeated earlier this season here
at home.
Western Michigan's offense is averaging just over
three goals
per game and their scoring is being led by Seniors
Eric Clark and Mike Hall. Another player that the
Illini will have to keep in check is Stallion Sophomore
Scott Kale, who has
also
been finding the back of the net and is the teams
leading goal scorer. On the opposite end of the
ice the Stallions are struggling a bit and letting
an
average of five pucks slip across the line per
game. The
net minding
duties are being split fairly evenly among the
teams three goalies, but
Senior Todd Hanchett is currently putting up the
best numbers of the three tenders with a 3.37 Goals
Against Average, and 92.4% save percentage. The
Illini will need to come out strong and take control
of
the game quickly as they have been known to do
and beat the Stallions out of the gate.
Please
note that the Illini Hockey Club will again be collecting
donations for the Garnet Litherland Leukemia Fund
during this weekends games against Western Michigan.
So as you wander down to the concession stand between
periods to grab yourself that hot dog, pop corn,
or soft
drink,
take
your change
and drop it in one the donation boxes, or better
yet, skip the nachos that you don't really need anyway
and give that money to a good cause. Your support
and generosity are greatly appreciated by
Garnet,
the
team, and
everyone else involved and we would like to thank
you for you kindness.
