24, 2003 - Four-time defending
ACHA Division 1 National Champion Penn State continues
to
roll along
winning all five of its games to start the season,
including three wins at the First Annual ACHA Division
1 Showcase and a sweep at home over #7 Ohio. The Nittany
Lions garnered 29 of a possible 31 first-place votes,
while # 2 Illinois received the other 2 first-place
votes. It was a busy week in the polls, as 16 of the
20 teams from the previous ranking moved either up,
down, out, or into the polls. #3 Delaware jumped up
two spots after an impressive showing at the D1 Showcase,
while #4 Iowa State also bumped up two spots. #5 Michigan-Dearborn
jumped up 6 spots after winning all three of its D1
Showcase games, and then sweeping arch-rival #13 Eastern
Michigan in a home-and-home series. #8 Rhode Island,
with a perfect 7-0-0 record, and #9 Lindenwood, with
a flawless 6-0-0 record, each vaulted up four spots
in the polls. Former Division 2 powerhouse, #11 Weber
State from Utah made its Division 1 debut in the polls
after taking 2-of-3 from Minot State, sweeping #17
Saint Louis, and losing to #9 Lindenwood in overtime
on the road. #12 Washington & Jefferson squeezed
up three spots to take over the final qualifying position
for nationals. Finally, 2002 ACHA Division 3 National
Champions Robert Morris (PA) used a split on the road
with #14 Towson to make their Division 1 debut in the
polls coming in at #20.
The next ranking will be released on Friday, November
7.
This years ACHA Division 1 National Championships
will be hosted by Iowa State University and take
place March 3-7, 2003 at Ames/ISU Ice Arena in Ames,
IA.
