Illini
try to declaw the Bobcats
 |
The
Illini's next opponent, Ohio University Bobcats |
February
5th, 2003 - The Ohio University hockey
club will show up here at the Big Pond with a overall record of
18-8-4 and ranked #2 in the CSCHL and #4 in the ACHA and would love
a chance to show the Illini that they can play tough on the road.
The Illini are 3-7 against the Bobcats over the last five seasons,
and were knocked out in the first round of the CSCHL playoffs last
year by the Ohio team.
Some of the Bobcats strength
comes from the goaltending abilities of juniors Brian Gallagher and
Lowell Franko who rank just below the Illini's Tim Danlow in the
CSCHL. Gallagher sports a 90.5% save percentage and an 11-2-4
record, three of those wins being shutouts, this season. On the
scoring side, the Bobcats have Zac Hernandez with 19 goals so far
this season and played at the CSCHL all-star game last year. More
team weapons are Tony Arkeilpane with 17 goals, Nick Bassarab with
11 goals and 17 assists and the teams rookie of the year last year,
and Frank Kubas also with 11 goals and who was on the University
Select team this year. The Bobcats Are averaging just over four
goals a game this season, but allowing their opponents to score
almost as much.
These games could definitely
be a preview of the CSCHL finals next weekend, and bound to be some
exciting hockey between two good clubs. Game times are at 7:00pm on
both Friday and Saturday nights. |
