Thirteen year old record falls
Senior Luke Carlson, the new record holder for the most power play goals in a single game (4).
November 5th, 2002 - A record that has been in the Illini books for thirteen years was toppled this past Saturday night in Ames, Iowa. Former Illini player Mike Goldberg has held the record for the most power play goals in a single game (3) since the 1989-1990 season where he not only did it once, but three times. During his time skating with the Illini Goldberg set many scoring records, most of which still stand, some probably will for quite some time, but one of those records now has a new name associated with it. During the Saturday night game against the Cyclones of Iowa State the Illini's #7, Luke Carlson, not only skated a good game, and not only scored four goals in that game, he scored four power play goals and now holds the Illini record for power play goals in a single game. The outstanding weekend play also places Carlson tied for 10th on the Illini All-Time scoring list. Luke, who is a senior in economics, is an valuable asset to the Illini Hockey team as well as a Illini fan favorite.
