Illini keep the streak alive

Illini pressure the Indiana defense

October 28th, 2002 - The Illini keep the streak alive, 10-0-0

Home coming weekend proved to be a good weekend for both Illini teams and their die hard fans. With Indiana coming to town both on the grid iron and on the ice, the Illini wanted to out play their neighbor to the East.

When the teams took to the ice on Friday night, they were both ready to play. Three and a half minutes into the first period, the Illini's Luke Carlson put one past Indiana's Pulley. Indiana battled back and five minutes later they were able to sneak one past Tim Danlow. The Illini were able to take advantage of a power play late in the period and headed to the locker room up by one. In the second period, the Illini's Duncan and Carlson were able to add to more goals, before Indiana could answer back with a power play goal, ending the period Illini 4, Indiana 2. Three minutes into the third, Brian Tilden scored his second power play goal of the night and left fans hoping for another hat trick game for either Carlson or Tilden. Indiana's Rogers was able to score one more goal in the waning minutes of the game to end the game Illini 5, Indiana 3.

On Saturday night a outstanding performance by Illini Goaltender Tim Danlow help lead the shutout against Indiana. Kyle Mulvey wasted no time Saturday, and just 13 seconds into the game, put one past IU's Josh Block. Block recovered quickly and kept the Illini at bay for the rest of the period. In the second period however, the Illini turned things around. Just two minutes in, Mike Roesch knocked one in with the assists from Carlson and Superfine. The Illini penalty killers were also put to the test in the second period, and not only did they keep the IU power play from scoring, but were able to score two short handed goals as well. Kyle Zabrin with the first, and Luke Carlson, taking advantage of bad move by the IU goaltender, put one into the empty net. Brian Coleman provided the only scoring in the third, leaving the game at Illini 5, Indiana 0.
